Take a Kid Hunting & Fishing Competition

Competition Headquarters and Weigh Station: Top Shot Bar,  15d Minden Rd, Te Puna

Registration/Entry: Must be paid no later than the start of briefing.

Cancellation: There will be no cancellation of the competition.

Briefing: 7pm Friday 8th March, Parents/guardians of entrants are asked to attend the briefing at the Top Shot Bar to hear any last minute rule changes and to collect starter packs.

Hunting and fishing times: Friday night 8th, Saturday 9th Sunday 10th March Hunting and Fishing is permitted from the end of the briefing until the weigh-in starts. Entrants must be at the event in person to claim any prizes.

Specified species:The following are the only species and minimum weights/ lengths accepted for weigh in:

Kingfish: 75cm minimum length
Snapper: 30cm minimum length
Kahawai: no minimum length
Trevally: 25cm minimum length
Bait Fish (Spotties,herrings, piper): no minimum length – most of
Eels: eels are no longer allowed to be entered in this competition in the interest of protecting the resource

Heaviest Hare
Heaviest Possum
Most Magpies
Most Possum

 

Fish and game: Entrants are only permitted to weigh in one of each 'specified' species of fish, or game – except no limit to the numbers of possums, magpies and baitfish. Entrants and/or guardians to remove their animals and fish after weighing, with the exception of possums – please bring along all the possums shot.

Final weigh in time: The weigh in time is 12.30pm to 2.30pm. No fish/game will be weighed after 3.00pm unless entrants are in line at the weigh station at 2.30pm sharp.

3-9 YEARS OLD:
Snapper: 1st, 2nd, 3rd heaviest
Kahawai: 1st, 2nd, 3rd heaviest
Trevally: 1st, 2nd, 3rd heaviest
MOST - Bait Fish (Spotties/herrings/piper) 1st, 2nd, 3rd 
Rabbits: 1st, 2nd, 3rd heaviest
Hares: 1st, 2nd, 3rd heaviest
Possums: 1st, 2nd, 3rd heaviest
Magpies: 1st most birds

 

10-15 YEARS OLD:
Kingfish: 1st, 2nd, 3rd heaviest
Snapper: 1st, 2nd, 3rd heaviest
Kahawai: 1st, 2nd, 3rd heaviest
Trevally: 1st, 2nd, 3rd heaviest
Rabbits: 1st, 2nd, 3rd heaviest
Hares: 1st, 2nd, 3rd heaviest
Possums: 1st, 2nd, 3rd heaviest
Magpies: 1st most birds

3-15 YEARS OLD:
Possums: 1st most possums

 

Capture and condition of fish and game:

Fish weighed for the competition must be caught in the Tauranga harbour only (from Mount entrance to Bowentown entrance), by rod or hand line only (no other methods).

Game to be 'despatched' humanely and legally.

All fish to be weighed must be gutted prior to weighing and must be in a fresh edible condition (chilled or kept on ice but not frozen). Bait Fish do not need to gutted,

No wet rabbits, possums, hares or magpies will be weighed.

Variation to Rules:The competition organiser reserves the right to vary these rules up to briefing. Where any part of the rules are varied, the changes will be announced at the briefing.

Disputes:The competition weigh masters decision will be final. No correspondence will be entered into.

Good luck: Have a great few days fishing and hunting. No fish/game is worth risking your life or well being, so apply all the water and boating safety rules, and ensure entrants under supervision are kept safe where firearms are involved.
